A Dream Holiday

Hola! My dear judges and fellow students.

Living in a fast-paced city like Taipei, where everything is in haste and people are heavily stressed, wouldn’t you just want to slow down, throw all your worries away and go on a holiday trip? If you consider spending a holiday with great architecture and excitement, Barcelona would definitely be your best choice. As for me, this place has been my dream paradise since I was little.

With my strong ambition to be an architect in the future, I have always dreamed about visiting the famous La Sagrada Familia, an unfinished cathedral built by Antonio Gaudi. This church is famous for its intricate decoration and elaborative statues. I wish to see the spindle-shaped towers, which seem to wind into the heaven above. I wish to study the hidden meanings that Gaudi composed in his masterpiece: the extraordinary façades representing the resurrection of Christ. By observing the structure, I feel like communicating with Gaudi historically through his symbols. Learning the facts from books is completely different from seeing them with my own eyes. Unlike other catholic churches in postcards, the stunning beauty of Sagrada Familia would be the best inspiration for me to visit.

Besides enjoying the architectural spectacle, I also want to experience the Spanish lifestyle. Like Don Quixote, who fights courageously against the windmill, I myself will set out my expeditionary adventure in Barcelona. Bathed in the warm sunshine, I want to take an easy walk along the beach, feeling waves that wash away the sand beneath my feet. The rolling tide plus the smell of tanning oils mix to create the magic holiday that I can only spend in Spain. I want to visit some of the flea markets and hunt for souvenirs. While searching through the stuff on sale, I can talk to the gypsies and learn more about their exotic culture. If I am lucky, I can also see some street artists performing outdoors. With the mystical magic tricks, the passionate Latino music that fills the air, and colorful faces of the quirky and funny clowns, I can never get bored with fooling around in a lazy and crazy afternoon like this!

It is a trip that is both intellectual and spirited. And this is a dream holiday that I wish to relax both my body and soul. Instead of lying in bed and daydreaming, I wish to step outside, explore overseas, open my eyes to a different country, and discover the beauty of Barcelona, my dream city. If you ask me, “What is so special about Barcelona?” I will say, “Ver para creer. Seeing is believing.” You will never understand the beauty of this city until you pay a real visit in it. Do you want to join my trip? Welcome to Barcelona!
